What seventeen years has looked like
Good Samaritan Ministries was founded in 2009 after a miraculous healing, and began with five Urdu Bibles given away by hand. By God’s grace it has become a national work.
- More than 150,000 free Urdu Bibles distributed since 2009
- More than 50,000 illustrated children’s Bibles given to Christian schools and Sunday Schools
- More than 1,000 Christian leaders trained, whose graduates have planted churches across the country
- More than 500 children taught at Maranatha Christian High School, from Nursery to Grade 10, without paying any tuition
- More than 50 districts reached across all four provinces
What changes in a child
Numbers are the easy part. The change worth reporting is harder to count.
A child learns that they are worth something
Most of the children in these classes belong to families who are looked down on every day of the week — sanitation workers, kiln workers, landless labourers. A child who is told, by name, that God made them on purpose does not hear that anywhere else.
A child learns to read
For many, Sunday School is the first place they hold a book and are expected to follow the words. Some go on into Christian schooling; all of them gain something that cannot be taken back.
A child takes it home
Children carry the lesson to parents who cannot read it for themselves. A craft on the wall and a verse sung in the courtyard reach the whole household. In more homes than anyone planned, the parents came because the children did.
A child becomes a teacher
The clearest measure of this work is how many of today’s teachers first came as children in the same class. That is the multiplication the ministry is actually building for.
What changes in a village
A children’s class in a courtyard is frequently the first thing that meets in a place with no church. The parents follow the children, a congregation forms, and a Sunday School that began with eight children in a yard becomes a church. This is not the exception; it is the ordinary pattern by which the churches have been planted.
Honest about what we do not yet count
This ministry does not publish figures it cannot stand behind. The number of children currently in Sunday School classes across the city churches, the brick kilns and the villages is being gathered properly, class by class, and it will be published here when it is accurate and not before.
