Baby Moses in the Basket
God watched over a tiny baby, and God watches over every child in this room.

Teaching the lesson

A mother who was afraid
Keep this gentle for the very young. A wicked king wanted to hurt the baby boys, and one mother hid her son as long as she could. Do not dwell on the danger; move quickly to what she did about it.

The little boat
She made a basket, covered it so no water could get in, and put her baby safely inside among the reeds. Show a real basket if you can find one. Let the children touch it. Ask them who else was watching u2014 his big sister Miriam, standing far off.

The princess found him
The king's own daughter came to the river, opened the basket and loved him at once. Of all the people who could have found that basket, God sent the one person the king could not refuse.

God gave him back
And then the best part: Miriam ran and fetched their own mother to nurse him. The baby went home, and he was safe, and he was paid for. Let the children laugh at that. God is not only powerful, He is clever and kind.
Activity
Float the basket. Fill a basin with water and float a small basket or a plastic tub with a doll inside. Let every child have a turn pushing it gently across to a "princess" at the other side. Say together each time: "God kept him safe."
Craft
Basket in the reeds. Each child glues a semicircle of brown paper onto card for the basket, strips of green paper standing up for the reeds, and draws a baby inside. Write "God keeps me safe" along the bottom.
Closing prayer
Thank You, God, for keeping baby Moses safe in the water. Thank You for keeping me safe too. Please look after my mother and my father. In Jesus' name, Amen.
