A nation that could not decide
Israel had not rejected God outright u2014 they were trying to keep Him and Baal at the same time. Elijah's question is about wobbling, not about open rebellion. That makes it a question for church children, not only for outsiders.

The test
Two altars, two sacrifices, no fire lit by human hands. Whichever God answers by fire is the real one. Let the class see how completely fair the test was u2014 Elijah even let the other side go first.

All day, and nothing
The prophets of Baal called from morning until evening. Nothing. Then Elijah soaked his altar with water until the trench overflowed, making it harder on purpose. Ask the class why he would do that.

The fire fell
One short prayer u2014 about thirty seconds of it u2014 and the fire consumed everything, even the water. The people fell on their faces and said, the LORD, He is the God. Elijah did not have to argue them into it.
Activity
The wobble line. Put "Following God" at one end of the room and "Following everything else" at the other. Read out ordinary situations — what you watch, who you copy, how you speak about people. The children stand where they honestly are. No comment from you, no shaming. Then read the memory verse.
Craft
Altar of twelve stones, built from paper or real pebbles on a card base, with orange tissue flame above and 1 Kings 18:21 written underneath.
Closing prayer
Lord God, I do not want to be halfway. Show me where I am wobbling between two opinions, and give me the courage to choose You completely. You are the God. Amen.
